Stinky Petes

A couple of weeks ago, my mom and I got home from my cousin's wedding around midnight. As we walked into the house, we caught a whiff of something that smelled like an electrical fire. Worried, we ran all over the house checking our appliances and making sure nothing was burning. We found though, as we opened the door from the house to the garage, that the smell was much worse out there. The dogs ran past us into the house, while my mom and I investigated. The smell was so strong and so awful that our eyes were tearing up and, I'll admit, I allllmost showed the neighborhood what I had eaten for dinner on the front lawn. Dig?

It was then that our neighbors came over. They had almost smelled the same pungent smell, and were worried about us. They couldn't find anything wrong in the garage, or in the house. One of the neighbors then mentioned having seen a skunk earlier that evening. It slowly dawned on us. Our dogs had been sprayed, and were now running all over our house. Awesome.

Today marks the final skunk bath we are giving them, and Maddie still stinks. We think she got the worst of it. When I ran inside to get them that fateful night, she was all yellow and shaking like a leaf. I threw her in the tub and scrubbed, but it didn't help with the stench. It took lots of scrubbings and plenty of time outside airing out to get them smelling even halfway normal. By the way, tomato juice doesn't work. 2 quarts hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup baking soda and a tsp of dish soap. Mix, soak dogs in it, and scrub, followed by a baby shampoo bath.

Here is a video of Maddie drying off after her bath. I filmed it because the noises she makes are outrageous. She not only does this after a bath, but every morning upon waking.

Guess who's next, baby dog?
